The Rte. Rev. Idus A. Nunn, Sr. was the second child born to the late Jessie Lee Nunn and Isaac Prince on September 17, 1922 in Lee County Georgia. Rev. Nunn, Sr. completed his education in the Lee County Public school system. He furthered his education in the Croton Bible Institute in Philadelphia and graduated. He was a baptized member of the Green Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev, A. J. Majors. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940, serving during World War II and received his honorable discharge as Sergeant in 1945.

After moving to New York in 1950, Rev. Nunn became employed by the Robaco Textile Firm in New York, which later years moved to Patterson New Jersey where he served as the Plant Manager and Union Representative for District #65 for 40 years until his retirement in March, 1995. In June, 1953, he became a member of the Doric Lodge #45 A.F. & AM. under the auspices of the Most Worshipful Hiram Grand Lodge AF. & A.M. in New York City where he served faithfully. He became a Past Master, Patron for the Eastern Stars, Sphinx and received his 32’ Degree in Masonry. Also, in October, 1977, he organized Zachanah Lodge #77, under the order of the Most Worshipful Hiram Grand Lodge A.F. & A. M. serving as its Worshipful Master. This lodge was compiled of Ministers, Deacons and laymen. During the years that Rev. Nunn served the lodges he served well,

On July 20, 1954 he was united in holy matrimony to the late Mother Frances Melinda Jackson, and to this union two children were born ldus, Jr. and Deborah Constance. He was a member of the True Light Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Noah German. He was Ordained and served as a Deacon, and later Ordained as a Minster of the Gospel serving until the demise of Rev. German. He then became and served the True Light Baptist Church for (18) eighteen years as its Pastor. In 1957, Rev. Nunn, Sr. founded and organized the Bronx Tuesday Night Ministers Evening Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity at the True Light Baptist Church. Rev. Nunn was proud of the Ministers Evening Conference serving well until he became unable to attend.

In May of 1968, the late Evangelist Adeline Lee of Spring Green Baptist Church had a vision and saw him in a brick building in the Bronx. After he found this brick building on June 14, 1968 in his home at 1348 Clinton Avenue Rev. Nunn organized the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church Mission. The late Mother Mae Wolfe Garris donated the first $5,000.00 towards the purchase of this building. On Sunday, July 8, 1968, we marched into our new home located 1281 Franklin Avenue. Holding a ten (10) year mortgage with the constant fundraisings and help of the late Mother Lillie Blackwelt, Mother Frances Nunn, Mother Amanda Wilkins, Trustee Bernice Blackwell, and Sister Ronelle Rouse and many others we were able to burn our ten (10) year mortgage in seven (7) years (Pop) said Gods number of completion. The late Rev. Esau M. Ragin, Pastor of the New Hope Community Church was the only Pastor that left his pulpit to march in with us. So Rev. Ragin closed out our church Anniversary every year until his passing in July, 1998.

Rev. Nunn "Pop" was a strict Pastor who did not take junk, and did not behave in mess. During his Ministry he was referred to as, “Pop Emeritus” or just ‘Merge’ Many ministers referred to him as ‘The Book Preacher” because he believed in doing everything in the church by the Baptist Hiscox Directory. Rev. Nunn has preached many sermons over the years, and he has ordained many Deacons, Deaconesses, Evangelists and Missionaries, and Ministers. His motto was there is work in the vineyard that needs to be done.

In April 1995, Rev. Nunn announced to the FABC congregation that after wrestling with the Lord he had reached a decision, that after 27 years of trying to Pastor the people he would be retiring from the church as its Pastor in June 1995. During a church business meeting the late Mother Amanda Wilkins stated we do not need to look for another Pastor, arid they voted that Rev. Idus A. Nunn, Jr. would become the church’s new Pastor, and Rev. Nunn, Sr became Pastor Emeritus. He departed this earthly life peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 5:00 P.M.
