Charles Harris was born in Sumter County, Georgia on October 20, 1934 to the union of Charlie Harris and Mary Lou Gaddy Harris. Charles was educated in the Broward County School System and was a skilled Laborer by trade. He retired with over 20 years of dedicated service. On August 3, 1952 he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Gladiola Salter. To this union four (4) children were born: Jerome Harris, Audrey Young, Victoria Etienne and Chastity (Brent) Thompkins. One brother, Alexander Harris preceded him in death,. Charles died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the Phoebe Sumter Memorial Hospital in Americus, Georgia
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Gladiola “Brownie” Harris of Americus, GA. One son, Jerome Harris of Deerfield, FL and four daughters: Audrey Harris (David) Young of Margate, FL (Victoria (Inel) Etienne of Delray Beach, FL, Gloria (Roger) Oliver of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Chastity (Brent) Thompkins of Pompano Beach, FL; Seven siblings; Louise Stanley of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Bernice (James) Sharpe of Americus, GA, Emma Lamar of Sacramento, CA, Martin Russell Harris of Deerfield Beach, FL, Vaughn Harris of Miami, FL and Owen Harris of Tampa, FL; two aunts: Claudia Walker of Smithville, GA and Otha Walker of Tallahassee, FL; 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grands and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
