OBITUARY

Mrs. Everlene Holmes Baker was born on October 28, 1951 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mr. & Mrs. James and Eddie Ruth Holmes. At an early age she joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Thomas. She was educated in the Americus School System, graduating from Staley High School in 1969. She furthered her education at Georgia Southwestern State College and received a nursing degree. She worked at the Sumter Regional Hospital for thirty years and was last employed at the Macon State Prison through the Medical College of Georgia. On January 3, 1969 she married Mr. Aaron Baker, Sr. and to this union one son, Aaron Baker, Jr. was born. Mrs. Baker died on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a brother Willie Robert Holmes.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 40 years, Aaron Baker, Sr; her son Aaron Baker, Jr.; one sister Mrs. Eddie Marie Merritt; five brothers: Mr. Jerry Lee Holmes, Mr. Tyrone (Janice) Holmes, Allan Holmes all of Americus, Georgia, Mr. Earl (Laketta) Holmes of McDonough, Georgia,  James Clarence Holmes, Jr. of Denver, Colorado; three aunts: Ms. Etta Mae Banks, Mrs. Ozzie B. Lewis and Mrs. Mattie Kate (Warren) Moore all of Americus, Georgia; six grandsons: Seaman Jamar Baker (U.S. Navy Station), Seaman Justin Davis both of Iraq, Terrell Baker of Valdosta, Georgia, Jestin Thomas of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Davion Shorts of Atlanta, Georgia and Alexander Baker of Douglasville, Georgia; Mother-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Baker of Americus, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Juanita (Donald) Idlette of Americus, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Mr. James (Ernestine) Baker of Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Alphonson (Tammy) Baker of Americus, Georgia. a devoted niece Nicole Merritt (Nikki); two devoted friends: Ms. Mary Jane Ward and Ms. Betty Bell both of Americus, Georgia. Several other relatives and friends also survive.
