Obituary

 

Mrs. Julia Bell Phelps was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 3, 1935 to the late Clifford Dixon and Florence Heath.  On February 24, 2009 she closed her eyes and went to be with Jesus after a period of illness at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Ga.

 

She grew up in Talbot County where she also attended the public schools.  At an early age she joined County Line Baptist Church in Howard, Georgia. Later she moved her membership to Westside Church of God in Christ where she served as a missionary.

 

She met and joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Daniel Phelps and to this union five loving children were born three preceded her in death: Sandra Phelps, Mattie Pearl Phelps, and Johnny C. “Bud” Bunkley, and one grandson preceded her in death who she reared as her own Mandrake Phelps.

 

She leaves to cherish her memories are two loving children Mrs. Bessie Brown of Mauk, Ga. and Mr. Willie L. (Dorothy) Phelps of Butler, Georgia one sister Mammie Lou (Emmanuel) Howell of Reynolds, Ga. one brother Charlie Clifford (Bertha) Dixon of Brooklyn, New York.  Sister-in-law Annie Bell Character, one daughter-in-law Elizabeth A. Bunkley, 12 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren Five devoted Friends Mr. & Mrs. Willie J. (Carolyn) Davis, Juanita Howell, Margery Searcy, Mattie Couch, Mattie Ray McCrary, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
