Funeral Services For Mr. Bowman Wiley, Sr.
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 12:00 Noon Lebanon Baptist Church Plains, Georgia Rev. Hosie Waters, Officiating Obituary Veteran Bowman Wiley, Sr. was born on December 4, 1924, in the Sumter County to the late Lindzey and Jennie Wiley. He attended (Seay School) in Sumter County School System. At early age he joined Mount Zion A.M.E. Church and later joined the Lebanon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hosie Waters. In 1944 he joined the Untied States Army and served two years of active duty. On October 2, 1948 he married the late Mattie Jewel Tellis Wiley and to this union three children was born. One daughter, Imogene Wiley precedes him in death. Before his retirement from the National Park Services he had several occupational jobs including carpenter, inventory clerk for Belk-Hagins as well as a business entrepreneur. Mr. Wiley died quietly on Friday evening, May 1, 2009 at the Magnolia Manner Nursing Center. He leaves to cherish his memory three loving and caring children: James Bowman (Robin) Wiley, Jr. Ms. Bobbie Jean Wiley, and Mrs. Lynn (Arthur) Bullard. One brother, Deacon Frank (Bernice) Wiley, Sr. Two sisters: Mrs. Walter Mae Floyd of New York City, N.Y. and Mrs. Vivian (Ruben) Cooper, Miami, Florida; six grandchildren: Jack Wiley, James Bowman Wiley, III, Kenny Louis Tatum, Jr., Kenyetta Tatum, Tiffany Tatum, and Arlissa Bullard. Nine great grand children, several nieces and nephews all survive Veteran Bowman Wiley, Sr. The family will receive friends at West’s Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
