Funeral Services For Mr. Joseph Lewis

Calvin Rollins, Officiating OBITUARY Mr. Joseph Harrington Lewis was born on April 9, 1935 in Sumter County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Mr. Essie Lewis and Mrs. Mary Harrington Lewis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Ethel Minyard. He departed his earthly home on May 4, 2009 to enter into his heavenly home to be with the Lord. At an early age, he joined Big Bethel Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. As a youth, he attended the McKay Hill School. Until his retirement, he was employed with Williams Brothers Lumber Company in Atlanta, Georgia.
Joseph was a man of many talents; a man who never met a stranger; a man who loved and lived life to the fullest; and a person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved reading and reciting poetry. He will be remembered by many in Americus as the man about town.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Juanita Lewis Freeman (Michael), Decatur, Georgia; a devoted sister, Jessie M. Brown, Americus, Georgia; a devoted nephew, James Brown, Charleston, South Carolina; his sister, Florence Brown, Buffalo, New York; two brothers, Moses Lewis, Atlanta, Georgia and Rothman E. Lewis, Newark, New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews and friends, including two devoted friends, Max and Lois Devane.
