James Clarence “J.C.” Thornton was born January 24, 1936, to the late Henry and Caroline Thornton in Macon County, Georgia.  He was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a member of Union Baptist Church. “Boosie” as he was called by his family and friends was a professional brick mason for more than 20 years. His hobbies were fishing and golfing. For the past several years, he took great pride in raising his great grandson, Devontay Thornton.

He was joined in holy matrimony to Annie Mae Smith Thornton who preceded him in death. To this union six children were born. Two sons, James Clarence, Jr. and John Fitzgerald, preceded him in death.

Those that are left to cherish his memory are his children- Rickey Thornton (Jena), Americus, Georgia, Lorenzo Thornton (Babbie), Marshallville, Georgia, Cheryl Porter (James), and Pamela Thornton, Oglethorpe, Georgia; Florence Barnes, Warner Robins, Georgia, Zona Riley (James), Ronald Everette and Michael Tookes, of Montezuma, Georgia; 25 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
