OBITUARY

Timothy Odom, Sr. was born April 12, 1919 to the parentage of the late Curry and Kittie Mae Harvey Odom in Macon County, Georgia. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and became a faithful, lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia. Preceding him in death are his sisters, Amy Odom Marshall and Eria Odom Johnson. Mr. Odom is also preceded in death by four children: Timothy Odom, Jr., Ethel Lee Odom, Robert Odom, and Norris Felton. He transcended from his earthly vessel to a life of everlasting joy with his savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his residence, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Mr. Odom attended Shade Arnold Elementary School where he completed his seventh grade education. As was customary during the time, he went to board with Professor Fields to continue his higher education. Due to his father’s illness and subsequent death, Mr. Odom was unable to complete his education. He returned home and worked the family farm with his mother, becoming in time a master farmer and astute businessman. Mr. Odom continued to prove himself a prolific and skilled farmer for the entirety of his life, up until the age of  90, at which time his children, who themselves had learned the craft from their father, took over the farm and managed its business aspects. Mr. Odom was a member of King of Honor Lodge 10 and served as its treasurer for over thirty years.

He married Miss Alberta Nelson of Macon County, his wife of sixty-five years. Their beautiful life together was marked with many years of happiness and laughter, and their union produced a legacy including ten children and one from a previous marriage. Cherishing his memory are: Mr. Curry (Alice) Odom, Botavia, NY, Mrs. Ernestine (Tom) Brown, Springfield, MA, Mrs. Vivian O. Breed (Edwin B. deceased), Cordele, GA, Mrs. Kitty (George) Harris, Fort Valley, GA, Mr. Cornelius (Gladys) Odom, Mr. Nathaniel Odom, Mrs. Brenda (Lynwood) Holmes, Ms. Frances Odom all of Montezuma, GA and Mr. Gregory (Annie) Odom, Covington, GA; He is further survived by thirty-eight grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and eleven great great grandchildren; His life and memory will also be treasured by his sisters and brother: Mrs. Mollye O. (Charles) Hankerson, Oglethorpe, GA, Mrs. Rosetta O.
