Deacon Romeo Harris, Sr. was born in Sumter County, Georgia on June 7, 1928 to the late Mr. Ike Harris, Sr. and the late Mrs. Berida Mae Waters-Harris. At an early age he joined the Welcome Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a member of the Deacon Board. In 1945 he met and married his devoted wife of 64 years Mrs. Lonnie Mae Martin-Harris. He was employed at IMC of Americus, GA for 20 years where he later retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Deacon Romeo Harris, Jr., a grandson SSGT. Johnny B. Thomas, Jr. and three brothers: David Harris, Luke Harris and James Harris. Deacon Harris died on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lonnie Mae Harris of Americus, GA; three devoted children: Virgirie (Johnny) Harris-Thomas, Eric B. Harris and Mackel (Lynette) Harris all of Atlanta, GA; five sisters: Ms. Virgirie King, Ms. Rena Mae (James) Walker, Ms. Berdia Mae (Otis) White, Ms Dorothy Owens and Ms. Delois Baldwin both of Aliquippa, PA; three brothers: Mr. Woodrow Harris, Mr. Anno (Betty) Harris and Mr. Ike (Velma) Harris; two daughters-in-law Mrs. Lynette Harris and Mrs. Doris Mae Harris; three sisters-in-law: Ms. Lula Mae Harris, Ms. Philliapine Logan, and Ms. Bonita Martin; one brother-in-law Mr. James Martin all of West Palm Beach, FL eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren;; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends including a devoted friend Deacon Jesse Foster also survive.
