Charles "Charlie" Raymond Godwin, 67, of Parks, died Sept. 15, 2009, at Flagstaff Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 27, 1941, in Santa Monica, Calif.

He loved life and taking care of his Appalosa horses was his biggest joy. He was a cowboy at heart. He served the country as an honored soldier in the Vietnam war (1965), and received a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross and air medal award. He also enjoyed riding one of his horses in parades in
Dodge City, Kansas, where he lived for 25 years. Once a year, he would take a small group of people to the Red River area in New Mexico on a cowboy camping expedition. He did all the cooking and guided trails by horseback.

He moved to
Flagstaff from Dodge City to be with his sister and brother in June 1996.

He is survived by his sister, Sharon Godwin Fox, brother Bill Godwin, brother-in-law Gary O. Fox, all of
Flagstaff, two uncles, an aunts and numerous cousins, all of the Derby, Kansas area and his aunt in Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five uncles, two aunts and several cousins.

Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary handled cremation. There will be no funeral as requested by Mr. Godwin.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Sept. 27, at
10 a.m. at the American Legion, 204 W. Birch Ave., Flagstaff.
