Victoriano Alonso, 80, died Saturday Sept. 26, 2009. 

 

He was born Jan. 11, 1929 in Hontoria del Pinar, Spain.  Arriving in the United States in 1962, he worked herding sheep in Nevada then Arizona where he made his home.  He later worked construction, then started his own masonry business, “Alonso Stone Masonry” which he retired from.  He loved his family, hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and Cliff Castle Casino.  He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and a friend to many.  He will be missed dearly.

 

            He is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughter, Rita (Tom) Murphy, son Victor (MaryAnn) Alonso Jr., stepson Clay Phelan, stepdaughters Tessie Phelan and Cindy Gutierrez; brothers Tito of Flagstaff, Isidoro of California, Carmelo of Spain, Marcelino of Spain, sister Laurentina of Spain, seven grandchildren, his loyal companion Buddy, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

 

            He was preceded in death by his father Eugenio Alonso, mother Felisa De Miguel, first wife Maria Martinez Alonso, brothers Pablo, Lucio and Casimiro.

 

            Services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 224 S. Kendrick, in Flagstaff.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
